Corey Williams - UW’s “other” Williams wins it
Nov. 22, 2003: Cougars were worried about UW receiver Reggie Williams, who had eaten them up the previous two years. But with barely a minute left, it was freshman Corey Williams who caught Cody Pickett’s pass in the front corner of the end zone for a 21-yard score, giving UW a 20-19 lead. The Huskies capped the 27-19 victory after returning an interception for a TD a few plays later.
Hank Grenada - The unknown starter
Nov. 23, 1968: Hank Grenda was WSU’s third-team quarterback heading into the 1968 Apple Cup when coach Jim Sweeney told him an hour before the game he was starting. Grenda kicked, ran or passed for every point in WSU’s surprising 24-0 victory. Grenda died in 2006 of a heart attack.
Mark Blocker - Shoestring tackle saves Cougars
Nov. 20, 1982: Everybody remembers that Chuck Nelson missed a 33-yard field goal with less than five minutes left that would have given UW the lead. Few remember the play before it. Jacque Robinson appeared headed for a first down, and maybe a touchdown, before Blocker - a 5-foot-9, 164-pound cornerback - got him by the shoe for just a 2-yard gain.
